George Romero master of terror
Well looking through netflix watch it now last night, I bumped into the latest Romero Zombie movie “Survival of the Dead”. What a long way he has fallen. I mean he is responsible for “Night of the Living Dead” and “Dawn of the living Dead”, two of the most influential horror movies of all time… horror movies that inspired an entire cult following… horror movies with a some sort of underlying intelligent satire. The guy who cast a strong black lead character in a horror flick in 1968.
Now he is making “Survival of the Dead”, WTF. Let’s look at the progression after those first two great movies. I mean “Day of the dead” wasn’t that great but it was ok. He cast two of the most un-military looking guys to be soldiers but whatever.
Then there was “Land of the Dead” which was pretty much a steaming pile of crap. Then he did “Diary of the Dead” which started ok but got pretty dumb if I remember it correctly and it had that scene where the Amish guy takes a scythe and kills himself with it. If you have seen the flick you will remember the scene because it is one of the more ridiculous things you have ever seen.
Well “Survival of the Dead” is like that scene over and over again for a whole movie. Note the image of a guy killing a zombie by sticking a fire extinguisher in its mouth and blowing out its eyes. The eyes are actually on springs.

I guess it’s kind of entertaining , the same way Alien Apocalypse with Bruce Campell is entertaining. But seriously what is that guy’s deal? The remakes directed by non-Romero people, of Night and Dawn of the Dead are like ten times better then anything else Romero put out.
