Season 3 Episode 12 – This episode sucked

Don’t get me wrong I still like the show but this last episode sucked. The only part that was good was the back packer. The parts with Morgan were freaking boring and annoying. In the comic Rick does go back and find Morgan and he is a bit crazy but he comes with them and helps out. He and Michonne actually hook up for a little bit and he is a relatively normal person.

In the show we got crazy guy with his ring of traps, which was ok. I kind of liked that he found he could trap the zombies by putting some living “food” in front of them.

The parts in this episode that really sucked though were Michonne and Carl’s conversations in front of the double glass door. You know, the magically unbreakable door that had like 20 zombies behind it. That was almost as bad as Andrea’s gay ass speech to the people of Woodbury. So far Michonne and Andrea who were two of the coolest charters in the comic have pretty much sucked. Michonne doesn’t really make a lot of sense, like I get she doesn’t talk about things or whatever, but she actually doesn’t tell anyone about knowing Andrea, which might have helped herself.  She also doesn’t tell anyone really why she disappeared during their raid of Woodbury, which would also help make Rick’s group trust her more.

How lame was is it that she was able to just run into that store to get the photo and the stuffed animal. How much better would it have been if she just opened the doors and just cut down all the zombies that came out?

Seaon 3 Episode 11

Well watched the walking dead last night and it was pretty good although it has become very different then the comic book. In the comic the governor did not sleep with Andrea and there is no relationship between them. In the comic the governor is like a serial rapist who manipulates the people of Woodbury , with only a few people knowing what his true intentions are. In the show more people seem to be on his side, and he seems much more reasonable and boring character.

Michonne in the comic is kind of normal person who jokes and talks with everyone in the comic until she is captured and raped by the governor, then she becomes crazier and more murderous. This was kept out of the show as well, with the just the governor stripping Maggie but not actually doing anything. Why doesn’t Maggie tell Andrea about that? If they are trying to tell her how bad her boyfriend is , seems like taking a woman hostage, making her strip down and touching her like you are getting ready to rape her, would be kind of a big deal.

Tryresse and his daughter and her boyfriend join Ricks group earlier on in the comic and he is basically Ricks right hand man. In the comic he also starts sleeping with Carol but eventually leaves her to be with Michonne, which causes a lot of internal conflict. That is out of the show as well. Now it seems he is going to be joining the Woodbury side.

In the comic Andrea never leaves the group and she is a bad ass sniper, and whenever they have conflict they put her at the highest point around so she can shoot their enemies. In show she just kind goes along with whatever the governor says just putting up little arguments.

Also in the comic there was no back and forth fighting at the prison. The two groups have some minor shoot outs while on supply runs, and then there is one battle at the prison, which is decisive. Also in the comic the Governor specifically wants the prision to make it into a base. In the show he says he as no desire to take the prison but to kill the people holding it.

Season 3 Episode 9 and 10 too much time on Rick being crazy

Well got behind on this site also last weeks episode pretty much sucked so wasn’t very inspired to write about it. Andrea giving the speech to the Woodbury people had to be a new low for the show. That part was was so stupid it was embarrassing to watch. Overall the governor is sort of disappointing in the show, he is kind of menacing and also kind of boring. The governor in the comic is like a serial rapist and although he fools the people of woodbury, there is no relationship between him and Andrea in the comic.

Also where the hell is Tyrese and his crew going? They just disappear, they are not in the next episode either.

Now episode 10 is much better, the fight between Daryl , Merle and the zombies on the bridge was ok, there are occasions in the show where the zombies heads apparently are made out of water balloons and the lightest impact crushes them. The time spent on watching Rick wander around crazy was too much. It was boring, it was creepy for about 30 seconds  then boring the rest of time.

It was kind of ridiculous that they had no people watching the outside of the wall for the Governor to show up. Again , where did Tyrese and and family go?

The parts with Michonne whirling around and slashing apart zombies where great, in fact they should just have half the show of her doing that.

Season 3 Episode 8 – Made to Suffer

As always a little late here. This week’s episode of the Walking Dead was good again. Rick and crew enter Woodbury to rescue Glen and Maggie and are successful. Whe Governor gets his eye poked out which was pretty great…all the while surrounded by zombie heads on the floor snapping their teeth. Michonne continues to not make sense , not telling anyone about anything or  what she is doing.  It’s starting to get a bit ridiculous, I mean she doesn’t tell Andrea why she came to kill the Governor, she doesn’t tell Rick about Andrea. She just sits and pouts.

In the Comic she was bad ass but smart, she talked, joked etc. Then when she is captured by the Governor she bites off his ear, so in retaliation he locks her in a storage unit and rapes her repeatedly.  After that she gets a little crazy and when she gets loose she sneaks into his house, and cuts off one of his arms, digs his eye out with a spoon and drives nails through his genitals. Now that would have been some good television! In the show, there isn’t as much personal hatred between the two, I mean he sent goons to kill her, but nothing face to face.

Also in the comic there are several situations where Michonne flies off the handle and does things that overall hurt the group, although not intentionally. I’m not sure if they are trying to portray this by her not telling anyone anything or what.

They introduced Tyrese which is a strong character in the comic. In the comic he is an ex football player and is rick’s right hand man for awhile. He travels with his daughter and her boyfriend. It looks like this might be the same  in the show.

Black guy from the prison dies, people are calling him T-dog #2 online and Tyrese is apparently T-dog #3.

 

Season 3 Episode 7 – Dead Men talking

Well the episodes are still good and can’t wait to see the next one.  This episode opens with Glen being tortured by Merle , which was pretty good. None of this stuff happens in the comic and Merle doesn’t exist in the comic but whatever it’s entertaining.

Michonne collapses in front of the prison and is let in. So far Michonne sucks. I mean she was one of the coolest characters in the comic but in the show she just is not that great. She looks the part, she swords fights the part but she just seems dumb in the show. She doesn’t act smart, she just acts surly and scowls a lot. A couple episodes ago when she was with the governor she was so obvious with the dislike of him. It just seems foolish.  Then when she is brought into the prison and she doesn’t tell them right away why she is there, or that she knows Andrea. It doesn’t make any sense. She tells them Glen and Maggie got captured but doesn’t mention Andrea. How many months have her and Andrea spent together and Andrea didn’t tell her about Rick?  Why would she keep that secret?

Reviewing my comics, in the the comic Rick, Glen and Michonne are captured by the Governor when they follow the helicoptor that crashed. I was wrong a couple post ago, the Governor had a wall of heads in the comic.  The governor tortures them, cuts off Rick’s hand , and after Michonne bites his ear off, rapes her. They kind of showed some rape-o side of the governor when he was touching Maggie but he didn’t really do anything.

The scene where they found the old crazy guy, kill him and feed him to the zombies to save themselves was classic Walking Dead. The situation where someone has to make an instant decision to do something totally brutal to someone else to save themselves is almost the theme of the comic.

The episodes seem to get better and better.

 

 

 

Season 3 Episode 6 – Hounded

Behind on the site again, sorry about that. This week’s episode was OK not really great or bad.   Michonne got some screen time, killing off her pursuers.  They are trying to make Michonne as bad ass as she was in the comic, but it still hasn’t really grabbed me. She is a favorite in the comic but so far kind of shallow in the show.   The sword action looked pretty good though

The show had the scene where Rick is talking on the phone to dead people, but it didn’t really grab me.  In the show there was kind of lead up of watching Rick get crazy then there comes the phone call.  There was also kind of setup where he tells Herschel he will wait for the call alone. In the comic Laurie died and Rick and Carl are hiding by themselves in an abandoned house, and he gets the call. There is no one around to hide the call from or tell about the call. The call comes from way out of left field and when you realize it’s Laurie it was pretty chilling.  In the show it was “Meh” for me, maybe creepier for someone who didn’t know what was coming.

There was more development between Andrea and Governor, getting drunk and sleeping together. There is a scene were I thought they were introducing a new character, the girl archer on the wall, but not sure.  Andrea jumps over the wall and knifes the walker -that was ok, but the archer girl seemed a little more upset  then was necessary.

They find Carol in the Prison but no real explanation of why she is just lying in that cell not making any noise. Perhaps dehydration?

I thought the scene where Merle takes Glen and Maggie was kind of whack, they seem hardened enough not to let that happen, but whatever.

Then the final scene where Michonne shows up at the prison seemed pretty good.

 

 

 

Season 3 Episode 5 – Say the word

Well as always a bit late on this post. I was browsing the internet and there are episode synopses on sites like the la times and sf weekly.  No wonder my traffic is drying up.  Apparently some of you come back though because I still get some readers. I know that these newspapers have better writers and bigger budgets and all and are probably much better websites then this, but you know what screw ‘em. I started reading this comic like 6 years ago (which I know is not that long) and I’m still going to write about it online.

Anyways, this week’s episode returned to the comic in many ways.  We were shown the Governor with Penny, his daughter, and he had his fake fighting show that was in comic. I wasn’t sure how this scene would work on the show and it was ok. The fighting in the comic was fake like pro wrestling style, I imagine it will be in the show as well. What was interesting is the zombie traps that the Woodbury people used to catch the zombies, that wasn’t in the comic.  Also the armor the scientist had on his arms to protect against biting. These two things lead to a couple questions though.  If they can lure the zombies into traps using noise, why aren’t they doing that on a grand scale? It seems like building big traps like that all over would be a really good use of time, if it sucked in all the zombies that walked by.  What if you put one of those noise makers on an over pass or  some other high structure the zombies could fall off the side of.

Also why doesn’t everyone wear armor? The zombies can only bite so hard, the scientist guy wears armor to deal with the zombies but none of the fighters do.  Anyways ….

Probably the best part of the episode was Michonne finally doing something. I hate to admit it but so far Michonne has been kind of disappointing. In the comic she was kind of dark and dangerous but in the show she kind of comes off as angsty teenager.  She finally cut loose and cut some zombies up, and she seemed to enjoy it.

The Governor’s note book with scribbles in it was very reminiscent of the “jack is a dull boy” scene from The Shining although it seemed to lack the creepiness. You already know he is a wing nut, so it’s not that big of a surprise.

Where the hell is Carol by the way, is she dead or what? If she isn’t dead it seems like she would have found her way back by now.  She already killed herself at this point in the comics, and was  pretty much a totally different character. Also its seems like it would be a priority to clean all the walkers out of the prison, rather then just locking them in the cell blocks. They already kind of showed you can just work as a team and get rid of the walkers by hand, but then they keep them around.  I guess there has been a continuous string of events keeping them occupied.

Season 3 Episode 4 – Killer Within

Lets go walking!

Well the walking dead is kind of becoming a slaughter house of characters, which is actually kind of fun.  In last night’s episode, (this whole site is a big spoiler for talking about the episode after the fact) not only did t-bone get eaten but Laurie bought the farm as well, after giving birth to what looked like a year old baby.  Did you see the size of that baby? No wonder she died giving birth, that baby looked like it was 20 pounds.

Anyway, the show has diverged a lot from the comic in this last episode, as usually I don’t really like the changes but the show was ok so whatever.  If I remember correctly in the comic they met and kind of integrated the prisoners quickly.  I think there were only 4.  I am actually re-reading the comic now and there was so much in it that would have made good television.  One of the prisoners turned out to be a serial killer and he killed a couple kids that were traveling with Rick and also tried to killed Andrea. Rick beat his face in and in the process wrecked his hand.  Carol tried to make out with Laurie and tries to get her to let her be a second wife to Rick, mormon style. There are suicides and more murders amongst the group.  None of that is in the show. Instead we get the random black guy letting in the walkers and turning on the sirens to draw more in.

Hershel makes a pretty amazing recovery and is up and limping around in no time.  It was pretty good I guess.  Then there was the big Laurie give birth and die scene which I actually found kind of boring. The idea of her dying in child birth and Carl having to kill her zombie was pretty good but the execution in the television show did not really grab me. In comic she died from a gun shot wound shortly in the future.

Then there goes T-Dog getting bit and then sacrificing himself for Carol. That was ok kind of cliché but it was fine.

 

Season 3 Episode 3 – Walk with me

I like heads!

Well still a  bit behind on this site but this week I will be caught up. Watched Episode 3 a couple days ago but just wasn’t near a computer to post this. They have introduced the governor and he is a white guy not Hispanic like the comic.   All in all it seems pretty well done but a few things didn’t make sense to me.

In the comic the governor finds the guys in the crashed helicopter as well and gets rid of them but he never finds the solders on the road. In fact, in the comic the guys from the helicopter came from a city sort of far away.  In the episode the governor and his men surround and kill the group of soldiers that are left. Which I guess makes sense, in one way but maybe not in another. This kind of brings up something I thought about in the last episode when Rick locks that one inmate in with walkers, even though he didn’t really do anything to them.  Isn’t man power worth a lot in this world? It seems like assimilating the soldiers into Woodbury would make more sense then killing them and taking their stuff. Although it is always possible they would challenge the status quo.

Anyways Michonne is kind of disappointing so far. She is kind of surly but other then that there hasn’t been much to her. There is also the reappearance of Merle, Daryl’s brother or half brother.

Probably the biggest change from the comic which disappointed me was the Governer’s wall of heads. In the comic he kept his zombie daughter bound up in the spare room with her teeth removed. He would try to hold and kiss her, which was pretty gross and disturbing. In the television show he has his gallery of heads, which means what? He is a serial killer? Why would he keep the heads alive to look at him?

 

 

Season 3 Episode 2 – Killers

Don’t make good decisions

A bit behind getting this up on the road. Anyways watched episode two last night. It was ok kind of feels a little rushed or something. Like they are packing too much in too fast.

I kind of feel like they are going overboard with the action this season.  Don’t get me wrong I like action and all but it seems less intense when there is a lot of it.

There are some little differences from the comic.  For one, Dale is the one who gets his leg removed in the comic and I think it happened later on. There were inmates in the prison but the one Rick had a problem with was black and not Spanish although the result in the end was the same.  There was a big biker that joined them in the comic. Curious to see how these new prison characters work out.

Looking forward to next week, want to see Michonne in action more.
